There are many compelling reasons to join the Washington Chapter of Alpha Delta Phi. Here are just a few:
Alpha Delta Phi International is one of the original and classic college fraternities. Our rich and colorful traditions have been celebrated and chronicled for almost two centuries at many of the oldest and most distinguished colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. Likewise, the Washington Chapter of Alpha Delta Phi has historically been one of the strongest, largest, and most popular fraternities at the University of Washington. By joining Alpha Delta Phi, you will have a chance to connect with our past, present, and future, and you will associate yourself with some of North America's finest.
The Alpha Delta Phi Foundation has established the most generous scholarship program offered by any fraternity or sorority established at the University of Washington. Not all of our scholarships are eligible only to our own brothers, but many are. By joining Alpha Delta Phi, you would be eligible to participate in all aspects of our generous scholarship program.
Alpha Delta Phi's historic and distinguished Tudor style chapter house is conveniently located at 2106 N.E. 47th Street -- a short two block stroll to and from campus. Our chapter house, which we affectionately refer to as “The Temple”, has all the trimmings…delicious meals prepared and served in our first rate kitchen and dining room, a comfortable library and formal living room decked with leather coaches and chairs, a game room, poker table, media room, study room, several “social” rooms, two off-street parking lots, and 31 rooms that accommodate single, double and triple occupancies. As one of the anchor fraternities at the corner of 21st and 47th (the “Four Corners”), we’re just down the street from lots of other Greek houses, and a short walk, run, or ride to the UW’s intramural and sports complexes, The ave and University Village.
Alpha Delta Phi manages its room and board fees (i.e. food, rent and utilities) with a view towards providing a healthy, comfortable and achievement-oriented living experience at competitive market rates. Over the past two years, the cost to live at Alpha Delta Phi has been significantly less expensive than the cost to live in a residence hall, and below the average cost to live in a fraternity at the University of Washington. The exact price charged each quarter and year is subject to certain variables, including decisions by our active members regarding food and social budget. For current and expected rates, please ask one of our Recruiting Chairs.
The Alpha Delta Phi experience has helped a disproportionate number of its more than 50,000 lifelong members become top leaders in industry, government, education and religion (National Notable Alumni). Alpha Delts have made significant and indelible marks in the history books of the United States of America and Canada. An Alpha Delt is responsible for placing the words “In God We Trust” on U.S. currency while serving as Abraham Lincoln’s Secretary of the Treasury. An Alpha Delt accepted the formal Confederate surrender of arms to end the Civil War. An Alpha Delt composed the Pledge of Allegiance. An Alpha Delt lead the charge of the Rough Riders in the battle for San Juan Hill. An Alpha Delt was one of the principal architects of the Treaty of Versailles and the Covenant of the League of Nations. An Alpha Delt served as Commander and Chief during World War II. More recently, an Alpha Delt was one of the five passengers on Flight 93 who confronted the hijackers on 9/11. More than forty Alpha Delts have served as Presidents of leading American colleges and universities. Several dozen Alpha Delts have served as United States Senators, United States Representatives and State Governors. Seven Alpha Delts have served as Justices of the United States Supreme Court, including two Chief Justices: Salmon P. Chase and Harlan Fiske Stone. Two Alpha Delts have served as President of the United States: Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The Washington Chapter of Alpha Delta Phi, likewise, has helped a disproportionate number of its more than 1,600 lifelong members become top leaders in business, law, medicine, finance and technology (UW Notable Alumni.) Our Washington Chapter has two alumni organizations, the Pacific Northwest Alumni of Alpha Delta Phi and the Alpha Delta Phi Foundation, both of which are extremely active, engaged, and motivated to help all of our members – alumni and undergraduate - achieve our organizational purpose: lifelong commitment to developing the whole man.
