Scholarship Information

The Washington Chapter of Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity is dedicated to the mission of helping its members develop into "entire men" - i.e., men who are social, moral, and intellectual. Consistent with this mission, during the 2008-2009 academic year, Alpha Delta Phi Foundation ("the Foundation") will offer up to $100,000 in scholarships to undergraduate members of the Washington Chapter of Alpha Delta Phi.

The scholarships, summarized below, are awarded at the sole discretion of the Foundation. The scholarships are also subject to certain terms and limitations. Most notably, the Foundation will only award scholarships to associate members and members who live in the chapter house, have fully paid their house bills, and have conducted themselves in compliance with The Covenant, Alpha Delta Phi's Fraternal Expectations, and the Chapter's by-laws.

Associate Member Scholarships - $500/ea

The Foundation will offer a $500 scholarship to each person who accepts an invitation to join the Washington Chapter of Alpha Delta Phi.

New Member Scholarships - $500/ea

The Foundation will offer a $500 scholarship to each member of the Washington Chapter of Alpha Delta Phi who successfully completes the new member education program and is initiated into Alpha Delta Phi.

Academic Scholarships - up to $1500/ea

During the 2008-2009 academic year, the Foundation will offer up to $1500 in scholarships to each member of the Washington Chapter of Alpha Delta Phi who satisfies the following criteria:

Autumn Quarter 2008 - up to $500/ea

  • $125 scholarship for achieving a grade-point average that exceeds the University of Washington's all-male average;
  • $125 scholarship for achieving a grade-point average that exceeds the all-fraternity average at the University of Washington; and
  • $250 scholarship for making the Dean's List.

Winter Quarter 2009 - up to $500/ea

  • $125 scholarship for achieving a grade-point average that exceeds the University of Washington's all-male average;
  • $125 scholarship for achieving a grade-point average that exceeds the all-fraternity average at the University of Washington; and
  • $250 scholarship for making the Dean's List.

Spring Quarter 2009 - up to $500/ea

  • $125 scholarship for achieving a grade-point average that exceeds the University of Washington's all-male average;
  • $125 scholarship for achieving a grade-point average that exceeds the all-fraternity average at the University of Washington; and
  • $250 scholarship for making the Dean's List.

Worrall Wilson Freshman Scholarship Award - $500

The Foundation will offer a $500 scholarship to the freshman member of the Washington Chapter of Alpha Delta Phi who earns the highest cumulative grade-point average for the 2008-2009 academic year. The name of this award winner will also be engraved on a plaque in the library.

Leadership Scholarships - up to $1500/ea

The Foundation will offer up to $1500 in scholarships to each member of the Washington Chapter of Alpha Delta Phi who undertakes certain leadership positions that are pre-approved by the Foundation. The leadership scholarships will be awarded as follows and subject to the following terms and conditions:

Winter Quarter 2009 - up to $500/ea

  • The member must submit a plan to the Scholarship Committee by December 5, 2008 that details what the leadership position is and the member's objectives for the position.
  • The Scholarship Committee must approve the position and the member's objectives for that position.
  • By April 6, 2009, the member must submit a report to the Scholarship Committee that summarizes his accomplishments, addresses whether he achieved his objectives for the quarter (and if not, why not), and recommends future goals or objectives for that leadership position.

Spring Quarter 2009 - up to $500/ea

  • The member must submit a plan to the Scholarship Committee by March 13, 2009 that details what the leadership position is and the member's objectives for the position.
  • The Scholarship Committee must approve the position and the member's objectives for that position.
  • By June 22, 2009, the member must submit a report to the Scholarship Committee that summarizes his accomplishments, addresses whether he achieved his objectives for the quarter (and if not, why not), and recommends future goals or objectives for that leadership position.

Summer Quarter 2009 - up to $500/ea

  • The member must submit a plan to the Scholarship Committee by June 5, 2009 that details what the leadership position is and the member's objectives for the position.
  • The Scholarship Committee must approve the position and the member's objectives for that position.
  • By September 15, 2009, the member must submit a report to the Scholarship Committee that summarizes his accomplishments, addresses whether he achieved his objectives for the quarter (and if not, why not), and recommends future goals or objectives for that leadership position.

Outstanding Upperclassman Award - $500

The Foundation will offer a $500 scholarship to an upper-class member of the Washington Chapter of Alpha Delta Phi who exhibits extraordinary dedication to the chapter during the 2008-2009 academic year, as voted by the chapter at the end of spring quarter.

Alpha Delta Phi International Seward Scholarships - $500-$1500

Alpha Delta Phi International offers scholarships to members of Alpha Delta Phi based on academic achievement and contribution to the fraternity. Those scholarships typically range from $500 to $1500.
